Halloween Safety

Halloween!

Basic Trick-or-Treat safety rules:
  • During Trick-or-Treat, a parent or responsible adult should always accompany young children.
  • Children of any age should never trick-or-treat alone; they should have at least two buddies with them.
  • Stay in familiar neighborhoods. Trick-or-treaters should plan their route before leaving home and tell an adult what the route is. Adults should set a curfew. Send a cell phone along with older ghouls and goblins who go out by themselves. Make sure the battery is charged and make sure an adult is available to if trick-or-treaters need to call home.
  • Trick-or-treaters should wait until they get home and their parents can check their candy before they indulge.
  • Adults going with trick-or-treaters should clearly point out a meeting place for in case they get separated. Tell the child where you'll be: will you walk with them to each door, or wait on the sidewalk in front of each home?
  • Discard homemade treats.

Cover armchairs and sofas with large white cloths to give your house a “phantom” effect. Suspend netted fabric in the corners of the room which you want to decorate and cover it with cotton wadding to create an cobweb effect. Also place the netted fabric on the lamps (attention not to put fabrics too close to the electric bulbs) above the doors or to create a sinister and disconcerting atmosphere a little everywhere!

Collect dead branches. Make them hang with a wire in front of the entry door of the house. Hang them by two or three, so that they are making noise and moving with the wind. Keep the smaller branches and hang them in the windows.

manouche: Not expensive idea : Ghosts made with Kleenex Tissue
You will need 2 kleenex tissus, a short piece of string or embroidery floss and black felt-tip pen. Cut lengths of the string or embroidery floss about 5 inches long. Take one tissue and roll it into a ball in your hand, gently but firmly. Once a ball is formed, take the other piece of tissue and place it over the ball. Gently, smooth the tissue down over the ball to form the ghosts head. Place the neck of the ghost on a length of string and tie the string around the neck and pull it tightly. This fluffs the ghost's gown. Using the felt tip marker, draw your choice of facial features! To hang the ghosts, using same string or floss, cut a length for the place you want to hang the ghost. Tie the string again, around the neck of the ghost and hang where you please.

Corina Smith: Scary glow in the dark ghosts!
Last year I was tring to make some decorations cheap for my teen daughters halloween party. We draped everything with a roll of black blastic sold for winterizing-$6.00, then I bought some cheap gauze material from the fabric department. I folded the fabric pieces in half to size that you want your ghost. I soaked it in half elmers glue, half water, and 1 bottle of .99 cent glow in the dark acrylic paint. While it was soaking in the mixture for a few min, I blew up a ballon and tied it. I rang out most of the mixture from the fabric, then placed the head inside. I then tied a string loosely around it to make the head shape. I hung it to dry where it can drip the glue on to an area that the glue would not ruin, or over plastic. I shapedthe ghost, then used assorted items like sticks, ect to hold its shape until dry. The next day I popped the ballon, and my ghost looked wonderful. I did not think it glowed enough, but was awsome under a black light. I made several 2 foot long and hung them. The wind catches them and moved them nicely! It was much cheaper than store bought, and was unique! I folded them flat for storing, and this year, I will resoak, reshape, and they will be fresh all over again! The fabric department sells this material much cheaper than the halloween section of the store. The gauze there it way over priced because they frey it and dye it grey, also easily done for very little money!

Eriin King: Fun Fun and a whole lota work.
We all know how halloween can be expensive, but on the other hand is a very fun time of year for parents and children. For those of us who live in Canada, its harder to arrange because we've still got our thanksgiving ornaments put up around the home. There are two simple ways of tying both in. First of all, Gourds and squashes are purfact to throw on a haystack in the front yard for thanksgiving till Halloween. I suggest going for a Fallish feel, with candles and leaves. Leaving spider webs, and ghosties till the end is easier. Make sure you buy your supplies early because many people have the same idea as you. Also, if your looking for a quick way to scare the victims of you neighbourhood, take a sheet ( preferably white) and a peice of dowling, along with some cotton fluff and a tie (string, preferably black). Then stuff your sheet with cotton fluff and stick a dowling rod through it, tieing it nice and tightly to perfection. Thats the easiest way to make a Ghostie or Ghoul.
Any more questions write back! Thanks guys.
