Gede Suryanta creates this mask of Bhoma from jackfruit wood, using acrylics for the finishing. Bhoma, the traditional symbol of the forest, is akin to Barong, both appearing similar to a stylized lion. He is the mythological son of Prathiwi, the goddess of earth, and Vishnu in the form of celeng (wahara). Suryanta hails from a famous village in Bali known for its ancient sculptures, inspiring him to create pieces that are wonderfully antique in appearance. |
