The Adipa mask is crowned with an elegant headdress featuring ornate brass plates. The face expresses gentle benevolence, for Adipa means "Good Omen" to the Akan people of Ghana. The priest wears the mask during special ceremonies, when the community comes together to ask their gods for a good omen during the harvest season. Robert Nortey presents a faithful replica mask, which he carves by hand from local sese wood. |
