Grandmother’s Day Where does Grandmother’s Day come from?

In 2008, we will celebrate our grandmas on Sunday, March 2

The origins of grandmother’s day are commercial; it was created in 1987 by the Kraft Jacobs Suchard group because of the Grand’mère coffee brand. Since then, in France, grandmas are celebrated each year on the first Sunday in March.  From year to year ,it has become increasingly popular. Nowadays, it is mentioned in most French calendars.

Grandmother’s day is a great opportunity for different generations to spend time together and share stories from grandma’s youth. It allows children to make the past their own through the history of their family.

The grandmother is a symbol of family and tradition. Whether you call her gran, granny, grandma, grandmamma, nan, nanna or nanny, the role that she plays in the lives of her grandchildren is crucial; it helps them develop a sense of self and learn where they fit in within their family.

Special thought should be given to grandmothers on this day intended to celebrate them.

Give the gift of your time or make a present for your grandmother.
  • Make and freeze her favorite dishes;
  • Paint a family portrait using a photograph;
  • Make jewellery with objects  from your childhood;

You just have to use your imagination!
